Could be gamers with just really old graphics cards. There's many computers from several manufacturers which have been sold where the graphics cards were very weak, yet the CPUs are quad-cores.  The other possibility… this might be a problem with a specific type of graphics card.

I would agree this isn't a bug… the game world should not revolve around only you. If I'm playing any game and I see a civilization or alliance or team removed from the game world it adds mystery to the game.  Who killed them? Is whatever killed them now stronger? Will whatever kill them now come after me?  It actually encourages the player to go investigate.

“I can't stress enough how comfortable I am making a game with simple graphics.”

I completely agree, and find this very comforting as compared to the developers from the big companies who waste so much time/money on fancy graphics without realizing their neglecting the game_engine, computer_AI, game_depth, game_options, etc., etc., .

As an alpha tester for Stardocks game Elemental game, I was baffled why SEVERAL developer journal updates were ONLY about the graphics engine or the lighting in the graphics or 3D in the graphics. In the end Elemental developers spent so much time on graphics the game FLOPPED and suffered bad when released. They spent several sequels trying to repair the game, but it never fully recovered.

Anyways thanks for placing the game first Mika and I hope you keep evolving the game for years to come.

-I don't see a way for me to sell items (possibly intentional)
      Advice for possible future feature:
Allow adventurers to sell items, however each shopkeeper only has X amount of gold for buying items and shopkeepers only buy items which match their trade. For example a blacksmith would buy weapons, yet would not buy potions. This worked great for Neverwinter Nights created by Bioware.

-The adventurer never seems to level up despite having a level displayed.
      Advice for possible future feature:
Allow adventurers to increase levels from killing enemies/monsters, however each type of creature can only be killed X number of times before experience ends. This would stop someone from sitting around killing rats to reach a high level. One step further would be adding quests/puzzles which also provide experience.
