I would very much like more female monsters (Mistress!), but unfortunately the tiles that I use have only one female – the witch.

It might be caused by something specific that you're doing in your games. If you happen to play again, do you mind sending me a late-game save file? If the crash usually happens after 18k, then around turn 15k would be good.  The save file extensions is “kep”. Thanks!

Possibly. Undead need some balancing because they have different mechanics. They don't get wounded, as you noticed, but get chopped into pieces.

I'm not sure, it would be too easy to make a mana farm.

I've secured my cousins Windows 8 computer for the weekend to test on, we'll see if I can reproduce the bug.

The aggressive enemies on/off thing is a big clue if it's true. Let me know if you find out anything more.
