Just got the game and I love it so far.  I have a few questions about rooms though:

    1) How exactly does efficiency work?  I know putting torches in the room increases it, but what else does?  Is 100% the max?  Is a larger room less efficient?  What does efficiency do?

    2) Is a bigger library better?  Will it generate mana quicker for me?  Does it have to be at least a certain size to get higher level research?  Can it be TOO big (if you disregard cost as a factor)?

    3) Does the size of the treasure room matter?  Will it fill up if it is not big enough?  Or can a 2×2 treasure room hold all of my gold?  If it can fill up, how do tell how full it currently is?

    4) I think a bigger training room allows more creatures to train at once, but if I have enough room for everyone, is there a benefit to making it bigger? Will higher level creatures turn their nose up at it and not use it if it is too small?

    5) Same questions about manufacturies…… Is bigger better?  Or can I make them tiny?

    6) Do I need to “claim” tiles?  What does that do for me?  Should I claim the tiles in empty rooms or hallways?

    7) Does a bigger beast lair attract better creatures, or just let you attract more?

Sorry for all the questions, and any info would be greatly appreciated!  And if you could point me to a guide or FAQ that goes over the mechanics like these in detail that would be great too!

I don't know the answer to a lot of these, but I will share what I think to be true.  Sorry I cant be more help!

    1. As far as I know, if the room is lit up fully with torches, that is as efficient as it can be.  I don't think size matters, unless the room is really big, then it might just need more torches

    2. Bigger library is better, yes it will generate mana quicker.  Yes, some of the higher level research requires a bigger room… but its not really that big.

    3. In my experience, you don't really need a big treasure room.  I find 2×2 is plenty of space, as minions are constantly taking big chunks of your gold every payday, unless your really lucky, you're never stockpiling tons of gold.  I don't think there is a way to tell how full it is, I don't think I've ever seen minions stop putting gold in the treasure room because it was full, but I'm sure it could happen.

    4. Good question, I have no idea.  If it seems like my minions are crowded, or some of them wont train, I'll make the training room bigger.  I'm not sure if the size of any room discourages certain minions, but it does seem like that sometimes.

    5. I tend to make all of my workshops big enough to have at least 4-6 100% squares, and it works well for me.

    6. I forget about this feature.  I don't typically use it, so I cannot say.  I suppose if you are going to take over a dwarf or gnome dungeon you need to claim tiles before building anything, for example a torch or a trap.

    7. Again, not sure, but it seems like it only attracts more beasts.  In fact, I also feel like you need to begin battling/losing beasts/minions in order to progress on and attract more powerful ones.  In other words, it seems like you might need to engage the game in order to see new/better minions and beasts.  If you just sit there the intake becomes stagnant.

My advice to you is just play the game and learn.  I enjoy that there is no elaborate wiki or FAQ, it makes it challenging, mysterious, and fun.  Also I don't claim any of my statements to be true, just my thoughts.

Thanks for the response gooddecision!  A lot of good info, and it'll help me as I'm learning the game 🙂

As to question 4 different monsters have different attraction levels. So you can influence who joins your forces. If you build only training room and dormitory you will mostly end up getting orcs if you build only workshop and dormitory you will mostly get goblins.

Creatures have also certain size requirement so for example Orcs need training room of at least 12 tiles to be attracted to your dungeon.

Harpy needs it to be 16 tiles.

So if you have 3×4 room that is enough for your orcs to train it it may be good to make it bigger to attract some harpies to join you. Or you can keep it that size if you want more orcs to join you.

I tend to go for a 5×5 library in a 7×7 room. That allows me to learn everything available. It'd be cool to add some stuff to the top of that, but that's for a much further release I'm sure. 🙂

I tend to build 5×7 or so training room and increase it as time goes on. It usually ends up being 5×11. Gold I never get more that 3×3 or 2×3 or so. Doesn't really need it. Storage is always about 5×11.

Manufacturies I make 4 4×4 rooms near the storage area – attached to each other and to the storage room. That way I get 4 100% squares and that seems to work out very well.

I've never noticed anything with claimed tiles vs normally dug tiles. You can still build most things on there. I wasn't able to build traps on hallways dug by other things however.
