Adventurer Levels

I've only now finally put some time in as Keeper.  I've spent all my hours previously as an Adventurer.  My perception is that the Adventurer never 'levels up' and stays level one.  I've not honestly watched Attack and Defense scores to see if they're improving.  Is this correct and what does/will the mechanism look like for levelling up (as well as increasing Att/Def) in the future?

The adventurer doesn't level up, he gets more powerful with new items and in the future with skills.
